Our History

Founded 1987 by Sir Martin Wood, co-founder of Oxford Instruments PLC. Oxford Innovation was created as a spin-off from The Oxford Trust, an independent charitable foundation, to provide affordable space, funding, and support for entrepreneurs across Oxfordshire —the UK’s first Innovation Centre.
In 1994, Oxford Innovation created the Oxford Investment Opportunity Network (OION), connecting businesses with investors to help get their ideas off the ground.
In 2011 Oxford Innovation Services was launched. This new division delivers major business support and coaching contracts.
In 2016 Oxford Innovation established the first ‘true’ network of Innovation Centres throughout England and Northern Ireland, opening the Innovation Factory in the heart of Belfast and has been recognised as the UK’s largest operator of innovation and incubation space.
Oxford Innovation Services and Oxford Innovation are now part of SQW Group, a leading provider of research, analysis and advice on sustainable economic and social development solutions to public and private organisations.
